Honours Project

I know it's been like 3 weeks now and I really should have started saying some stuff about this before now...

So for my honours project I really want to create an interactive story for preschoolers, developed on the iPad. As I have no programming skills whatsoever I began looking for a programmer but then I was told about a 3rd year project where they would be developing exactly what I wanted to make only this time the brief was for DISNEY! Exciting stuff :) After speaking to David Malpss, head of Disney Online I decided I definately want to take part in it. As long as I stick to my learning outcomes and whip the team into shape if they start being like us last year then it all should be fine :)

As for my dissertation question I thought about using the question 'How environment art affects the users experience and enhances the narrative.' or something along those lines.

Busy, busy bee!

I have been so busy these last few weeks so haven't updated in a while, I've done another project for NCR and also am involved in an animation and a concept for a game design here are some interface designs for NCR...

I really enjoyed doing these interfaces, was good to just play about on photoshop and have free reign!

For the concept for the game this is the level i have come up with so far, more photoshop makes me a happy Rosie :D

I still have another 4 levels to design, the next one just needs coloured which will hopefully be done over the weekend and the other started to be sketched out next week :)

As for the animation i will have screen shots of my textures soon, I am on my mac with no Maya right now but will get round to it soon!

visARTinc

As part of a summer project we have created a mini animation studiocalled visARTinc. I made a quick logo to go on the website just now. I will put up a link when its all finished being designed and programmed :)

Our first animation is about stationary, I know it sounds strange but it is actually really funny! I cant really give away too much of the story as its not finalised but here are some VERY rough character concepts, they need a lot of work and I still need to colour some of them.

Finalised characters - Pencils...

It's been a while...

I actually got inspired to write in here tonight. Never felt more like doing some work and actually realising that I LOVE what I do! I have a whole bunch of stuff to put up that I previously wasn't allowed to show. This summer is going to be hectic, got more work to do with NCR which will hopefully be starting next week, the animation with Dmitrijs Cernagovs is going well - got all the characters designed and the story boards done, environtment is getting done this week and then I can start tidying up the story boards and making them look presentable! Also have some work doing illustrations for a childrens book, got some concepts done but cant wait to start finalising them and making them look pretty!!

NCR Self Service Project

This is the poster I made for when NCR come to visit us and we had to present to the head of the whole company, turns out he was alovely American man who loved our ideas!

Concepts for different situations and different places where the avatar could be used, my favourite is the last one, the plan was that she would be waiting for you to make a decision and she would tap on the glass to remind youthat she was still there! she was affectionately nicknamed 'Chippy Girl' by the rest of the team.

NCR- Microsoft Surface Project - Time Machine

This was a financial game deisgned to help people with decisions on their bank accounts, I was there to decide on the look and feel of the whole game and also some concept art. The game has been shown to so many people and its so awesome to have been a part of it! The best part was definately when it got presented to Alisdair Darling when he was still the Chancellor, telling him how to organise his finances was probably not the best idea at the time! :p

Persuasive Narrative

My final piece for persuasive narrative, had to cut the credits and bloopers off cause it was too large a file for youtube! Thanks to everyone who helped :)

Presentation...

After about 5 attempts I finally made my presentation without it corrupting, crashing or just refusing to export :) thats the last bit of third year to do! Over the summer I will be working on an animation with Dmitrijs Cernagovs and Marnie Faulkner. It should be a really good fun project cause I will have no other distractions, other than work. Also as another part time project I will hopefully be working with the uni on creating a 3D interactive replica of the university for an upcoming project. I'll keep updating this for all the summer projects :)

The last pieces for Personal Project...

Blood Lawyers Game

So the end is in sight for personal project as all work has to be submitted to Tern TV, where I was designing the environments in a futuristic world set in a flooded Scotland in 2090, by tomorrow (Friday) and the GDPM's are putting together the bible of all our work, so here are my final pieces of digital artwork that I have been working on this week. I like the style of them as I have progressed :) I am still working on one last design that I will upload later on today.

I know the perspective on this is wrong and there is a bit of reverse perspective going on but I wanted to create more of a feeling of how big everything was rather than just a pretty picture.
This is the original artowkr for the fixed perspective drawing that I am making and below is the coloured version, I wanted to make the buildings all black and white so that it look more industrial.
This is a layout for one of the Parishes where people now have to live and the building is the rigo imbeki medical centre where people with the deadly strain of HIV, Senga, get put so they can die.

Personal Project

I have finally blocked in all my animation, once I have sorted out the timing in the last 20 secs I will upload it on here along witht the animatic. I have also done the majority of my filming for persuasive narative and have got all my magazine pages sorted out for it so the last of the filming will be getting done on Saturday and will hopefully be mostly edited by the end of next week.

I have been concentrating mostly on Personal Project this week and colouring and finalising the concepts for the structures in the RealTime world, here is a finished concept for the Blood Lawyers offices. I wanted it to be a really large building just to show the scale of how many people actually needed the help of the Blood Lawyers. The sky is dark and grey clouds because the weather is so unpredictable. I think the pathway and ground needs more work but for now I will be working on the Inverdisney Timeshare Pen.

Although it took me hours to colour, I think I prefer it in black and white, I also experimented with other effects below...

Storyboard

enjoying rigging?

I am so happy that i finally finished rigging and skinning my character, still need to sort out the braces but thats it :) I managed to finish my story board too and animatic, so here are some stills and I'll see if I can upload the animatic :) I used Learning Autodesk Maya, The Modelling and Animation Handbook, it can be found here http://http//store.autodesk.com/store/adsk/en_US/pd/productID.95718600?resid=S7iKgwoHAi8AAHFhSwgAAAAL&rests=1270385283069

It really helped meto build an effective rig and controls, it is really easy to understand and actually helpedme to enjoy the rigging process :) Soif anyone hasn't started rigging yet then use this book!
